Title of work: Survivor
|
There’s this girl pulling the main girl down. This is the illustration of the dark side in our heart. As I believe no matter how strong one’s willpower could be, there’s still a voice in us pulling us down, telling us to stop trying.
On the left top corner there was a broken rope and another part of the rope was floating on the water underneath. Other than that, there was a crack on the water pipe. All these tell that there was someone trying to survive by supporting himself on the pipe with the rope but the rope broke & he had fallen into the water & he has nowhere to be found. The crack shows the weight, support the fact that someone was once hanging up there. The broken rope on the water show the direction where the person dropped.
Lastly, the long crack on the wall was to exaggerate the dangerous state the girl was in. also to give audience to imagine what will happen if it cracks and fall apart. The wall will fall on the girl & seawater from outside will rush in?
One side of the drawing shows what happen in the ship & the other side is actually the outer ship body & the sea. At the outside of the ship, I want to show the feeling of a survivor after all the struggling & fighting. That is the feeling of hope, & beauty. However it’s not just a simple scenery view. The sky, the sun and a small part of the sea are actually the painting on the ship body. The big waves are the “real sea”. So imagine a ship with such painting sailing on the sea. This is also to create a beautiful connection between the ship & the sea. To have a big contrast with what happen in the ship.
In summary, the message of my drawing is never give up on trying even if hope is frail. We should all have this spirit & willpower of a survivor.
